Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what Vinia ("we") collects when you use the Vinia app, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. Vinia is operated by CrawlSense. If you have questions, email us at support@crawlsense.ai.
Your account and identity
By default you can use Vinia anonymously: we create a random device identifier (a UUID) for your account, and we do not need your name or email to use the app. Optionally you can choose Sign in with Apple, in which case Apple may share your name and email address, or an Apple private relay email, depending on what you choose. We use this only to identify your account and sync your data across devices.
Data we collect
To identify wines and help you build your tasting journal and cellar, Vinia processes:
- Wine label photos or wine-list photos you capture or upload to be identified.
- Text descriptions or notes you add about a wine.
- Your tasting journal and cellar: the wines you save, their details, AI identifications, taste profiles, food pairings, your ratings, tasting notes and any drink-by reminder schedules.
- Account identifiers: a random, anonymous device UUID and — only if you use Sign in with Apple — the name and email (or Apple private relay email) Apple provides.
- Usage and device data (app interactions, device type, app version, crash diagnostics and an install identifier) to keep the app running and improve it.
How we use your data
We use your data to identify and analyse wines and generate taste profiles and food pairings, to store and sync your journal and cellar, to power the AI sommelier coach and drink-by reminders, to manage subscriptions, to fix bugs and improve the app, and to comply with the law. We do not sell your personal data.
AI processing
When you scan a wine label or wine list, the photo and any text you provide are sent to Anthropic, PBC (United States) and processed through its Claude API to identify the wine, describe the taste profile, suggest food pairings and rate the value. Anthropic acts as our service provider (processor) for this feature and, under our agreement, your photos and descriptions are not used to train AI models. Google Cloud does not run this AI analysis; it is used only for hosting and storage (see "Third parties we use"). Results are estimates and may be inaccurate; you can review and adjust them.
Wine photos and storage
When you save a wine to your journal or cellar, its label photo is stored on Google Cloud Storage so it can appear in your journal and sync across your devices. You control these photos: deleting a wine entry deletes its photo, and deleting your account deletes all of your wine photos. Photos are not made public and are not used to train AI models.
Third parties we use
We share limited data with service providers that process it on our behalf, under contract. Each one receives only the data it needs for its role:
- Anthropic, PBC (United States) — receives the wine label photos and text you submit and runs the Claude AI models that identify and analyse them. Under contract, this data is not used to train AI models.
- Google Cloud (European Union, region europe-west1) — provides hosting and storage only (your account, your journal and cellar entries and your wine photos). Google Cloud does not run the AI analysis.
- Apple — processes your subscription payment (Apple is the merchant of record). We never receive your full payment details. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple also provides the account data described above.
- RevenueCat (United States) — receives an app user identifier and purchase/receipt data to manage your subscription status and entitlements.
- Sentry (United States) — receives crash and diagnostic data and an install identifier so we can detect and fix problems.
International data transfers
Vinia stores account, journal and wine-photo data in the European Union (Google Cloud, region europe-west1). Some of our service providers — including Anthropic, RevenueCat and Sentry — are located in the United States, so your data may be transferred to and processed there. When we transfer personal data outside your region, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, to protect it.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete individual wines (and their photos) at any time from your journal or cellar, and you can delete your account and all associated data directly in the app under Settings → Delete account. This works for both anonymous (device UUID) accounts and Sign in with Apple accounts. You can also email support@crawlsense.ai to request deletion. Once you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records to meet legal, tax or security obligations.
Your rights (GDPR and similar)
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or object to the processing of your data, as well as the right to erasure. You can delete your account and data directly in the app (Settings → Delete account), or email support@crawlsense.ai and we will handle your request. You may also withdraw consent or lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records to meet legal, tax or security obligations.
Age restriction
Vinia is rated 17+ and is intended for adults of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 17. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us and we will delete it.
Estimates, not professional advice
Vinia's wine identifications, taste profiles and food pairings are AI-generated estimates for general information only. They are not professional sommelier, oenological or medical advice. Alcohol affects health — please drink responsibly. Vinia does not sell or facilitate the purchase or sale of alcohol.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will update the "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
